About me
I was diagnosed with relapsing NMO in the spring of 2011 via MRI after having multiple negative NMO IgG tests. I've had symptoms since 2007 but was unable to have an MRI due to having a cardiac pacemaker. I was initially diagnosed with RRMS after several attacks of optic neuritis. Then in September 2008 I had bilateral optic neuritis and generalized weakness (greater on the right). My diagnosis was changed in October 2008 to Devic's NMO. My neuro then changed his mind in May 2009 and took me off of all disease treatment and just put me on symptomatic treatment. I was referred to a new neurologist in March 2011 after another relapse. His clinic was doing a trial protocol for doing MRI's on pacemaker patients. I finally got my MRI and it showed extensive lesions in the spine. My diagnosis was changed BACK to NMO. Now I have started Rituximab (Rituxan) treatments and have been relapse free for 6 months. Previously I was relapsing every 3-6 months!
