This is going to sound bad, but I'm so glad that other people know what I'm talking about when it comes to itching. I thought I was going nuts! I'll bring it up to my neuro the next time I see him. I itch CONSTANTLY and it doesn't matter where I itch. It's all over - even my tongue itches.
Take care,Michelle M. :)

Yes, ITCHING, ITCHING, ITCHING!!!! I've had this since 2004. Sometimes it has
just been a mild itch someplace, like on my scalp or eyebrow area. But I have
itching always, and sometimes it is almost unbearable like right now all over my
back and one side of my hip. You've gotten some good suggestions from people already, but here are some
things that help me somewhat: 1800 mg. of Gabapentin per day, sometimes Xanax at
bedtime when it is really bad, no tight clothing rubbing against me, rubbing the
itching areas with a cold wet washcloth, and using itch controlling lotions such
as Sarna or Eucerin Itch Relief (this lotion thing is actually more a
psychological help since our itches aren't skin related, but are nerve related.)
And remember, our symptoms do change-and sometimes for the better! Kathi

Michelle M,
Thank you so much for your prayers! I need them right now. It's slow going,
but I get a little more strength each day. I think my body was completely wiped
out after 20 days in the hospital...however, I'm just taking one day at a time
and I do feel better. My pain is controlled and I'm really happy I've had some
small improvements in one eye. I believe that my vision will slowly continue to
improve. I just keep praying :) God is in control!Hugs to you!

Subject: Re: [Devics-spectrum] How did your year go?
2011 I think has been one of the worst years of my 55 years of life. I will be
kicking it in the ass as it leaves. Oh, it could definitely have been worse,
things can ALWAYS be worse. In January my Mom got sick and she died in Late February.
On March 10th (my birthday), while I was still in Phoenix going through Mom's
things with my sisters, I relapsed. My sisters had never actually seen me
relapse before so they kind of freaked out. My husband came from San Diego and
got me back home. Got the attack stopped with steroids but ended up back in my
power chair. Took 5 months but I got out of my chair and I'm walking with my
cane now.In March my grandson had his tonsils out to help his keep apnea. Then in May
his dad, my son-in-law, had his tonsils, adenoids, part of his palate, and part
of his tongue removed also due to severe sleep apnea. 2 weeks after the surgery
the beginning scar tissue broke free and he hemorrhaged and almost died before
they got the bleeding stopped.A few days later we thought Stan (my husband) had the stomach flu as he had
severe vomiting and diarrhea. After 3 days of keeping absolutely nothing down,
I made him go to the ER thinking they would just give him something to stop the
vomiting and diarrhea and an IV to replace his fluids. Nope! Turned out that
his appendix had actually ruptured about 10 days beforehand. The doctor said if
we had waited even another couple of hours he would have died. He had to have a
completely open abdominal surgery to find all the pieces of appendix and his
intestines had gotten gangrene so they had to remove his large colon. He was in
ICU for about a week and off work for 3 months. All during this same time frame, my brother-in-law was very sick with his
kidneys, lungs, and heart all shutting down. He was on life support for a while
until they discovered he had cancer. He's just finished his chemo treatments
and is doing well.A month ago Stan started having trouble with his knee. Finally went to the
doctor and found out that he has osteonecrosis (bone death) of the knee from the
surgery. So now he is completely non-weight bearing on that leg using forearm
crutches. He has to be non-weight bearing for 3 to 6 months to see if the bone
regenerates. In October, my niece and her husband had a man hit them head-on and my niece had
a lot of bumps and bruises and a really severe concussion. The police officers
said they didn't understand how they survived. The good news in all this is (1) I'm walking again and doing therapeutic
horseback riding, (2) my son-in-law didn't die and is doing well, (3) Stan
didn't die from his ruptured appendix and accompanying gangrene and his knee
will hopefully improve and not require joint replacement, (4) Larry
(brother-in-law) didn't die and has finished his treatment, (5) niece and her
husband survived and she is doing okay altho still dealing with post concussive
syndrome.Soooo... 2011 was a horrible year!

I am reading it as well. It's very interesting. I'm probably not as far into the book as you are though Grace. I just hit part 2.
I'd love to discuss it more if anyone is up to it.
Take care,
Michelle M. :)

Subject: [Devics-spectrum] The China Study.
Right now, I'm deep into the China Study and I will admit that I am regretting
many of my food choices in the past. Growing up, I was always a small kid and
my family was forever trying to *put meat on my bones*. Whenever I think of my
food choices in the past it makes me cringe. We were a *meat and potatoes*
family. Bacon and/or sausage in the morning, lots of eggs, tons of farm fresh
unpasteurized milk (my Grandmother used to let me skim the cream from the top),
and ridiculous amounts of meat at lunch and dinner. Years later as a student,
my diet consisted almost entirely of greasy fast food---food that I could grab
on the run in between classes and work.Several years ago I became a vegetarian, for ethical reasons more than anything
else. (I abhor factory farms) Only very occasionally do I fall off of the
wagon and eat something that isn't on my list. Over the years I've discovered
that I can still manage my diet, even when eating out. At the conference, for
the first time in a very long time I did eat some chicken and although it was
delicious, I immediately felt guilty for daring to eat one of my feathered
friends.Anyways, The China Study is riveting and once again I am rethinking and planning
to revise my diet. We really *are* what we eat.Grace

Michelle,
I live in Michigan too. Maybe she can combine visits and get a hospital in our
state to participate?

Thanks Gracie I am looking forward to meeting her. I have already talked to her
a few times setting this up. She was able to get a number of others to join on
Friday also making her trip worthwhile rather than getting just one. Although
anything I know is a help. I am just glad others will have the opportunity as
well._______________________________________________

Hi Alex,So glad you made it home. Home is always better than the hospital. I
lost the vision in both eyes in 2008 and started plasmapheresis a
month later after failing on IV steroids. I did eventually get my
sight back in both eyes. I did 7 days of plasmapheresis over a 14 day
period. After the 4th or 5th treatment I started seeing light and
movement. It took a year before my vision got good enough to drive
but has just recently stabilized enough to get a new prescription for
my glasses. Are you having other issues besides the vision loss in one eye? Is
your other eye okay? If it is "just" the vision problem in one eye
then you should be allowed to drive. People who have actually
completely lost an eye drive. When I was having ON attacks in just
one eye my doctor cleared me to drive. It was just when I lost the
vision in BOTH eyes that I couldn't drive. And now I can't drive
because I don't have any feeling in both feet and the right leg.Tracy

Cool! Thanks Tracy.
I'm not getting the emails. I am getting ones from other people, but not the ones I'm sending so I wasn't sure if they were going through.
Take care,
Michelle :)
